Gatwick North or South Terminal: Check Your Departure and Return
Updated 12 October 2026
Gatwick has two terminals: North and South. Check the terminal for each flight separately, including your arrival back at Gatwick. Your flight number, travel date and operating airline are the most useful details for finding the right terminal.
Find your departure terminal using your flight details
Start with your airline’s booking confirmation, app or Manage Booking page. Look for the departure terminal alongside the Gatwick flight details. If your boarding pass shows a terminal, check that too.
If the terminal is missing or unclear, use Gatwick Airport’s website to find its airline terminal information. Closer to departure, check the live departures information for your specific flight.
Have these details ready: - Your flight number, rather than just the destination. - Your departure date. - The airline actually operating the flight.
The airport code LGW means Gatwick; it does not identify North or South Terminal. Avoid relying on an old search result, a previous trip or another passenger’s itinerary.
Recheck before travelling and follow updates at the airport
Confirm your terminal again before leaving home, using your airline’s latest flight information and Gatwick’s live departures when your flight is listed. Keep airline notifications enabled so you can see updates.
If your booking and the airport’s information disagree, check with the airline rather than guessing. Once at Gatwick, use the flight information screens to locate your flight and check-in or bag-drop area. Ask airline or airport staff if anything remains unclear.
A terminal is not the same as a boarding gate. You may know your terminal well before a gate is announced. Check your airline’s recommended arrival time and its separate check-in, bag-drop and boarding deadlines; do not treat the flight’s departure time as the deadline for reaching the airport.
Check the terminal for your arrival back at Gatwick
Open the return leg of your booking and find the flight arriving at Gatwick. The terminal at your overseas departure airport is not the Gatwick arrival terminal you need for onward travel or car collection.
Record your inbound flight number and scheduled arrival date at Gatwick. For overnight journeys, the arrival date can differ from the date you depart. Use the UK local arrival date when looking up the flight.
Check the arrival terminal with your airline and, when the flight appears, Gatwick’s live arrivals information. Do not assume it will match your outbound terminal, particularly if you have booked different airlines for the two legs.
Share the inbound flight details and arrival terminal with anyone collecting you. They should check the flight’s status and the airport’s current collection instructions before setting off.
Plan the right rail arrival, drop-off or terminal connection
Gatwick’s railway station is at South Terminal. If your flight leaves from North Terminal, follow signs for the inter-terminal shuttle train. This is an airport connection between the terminals, before security; allow time for it when planning your journey.
For a taxi or private-car drop-off, give the driver the terminal name as well as the airport. Follow the airport’s current signs and check its published drop-off charges and payment instructions before travelling. Do not assume the departures drop-off area is also the correct place for collecting an arriving passenger.
If you reach the wrong terminal, ask staff for the route to the inter-terminal connection before joining a check-in or security queue. Families with pushchairs and travellers needing step-free access should check Gatwick’s accessibility information and allow time to follow the appropriate route.
Match Meet & Greet handover and collection to your flights
With Meet & Greet parking, you hand your car to the parking provider at the agreed meeting point, and the provider parks it for you. The exact handover and return arrangements depend on the product you book; a terminal name alone is not enough to identify the meeting place.
Check that your parking booking records the correct departure terminal, return terminal, flight numbers and dates. If your terminals differ, confirm with the provider how collection will work rather than assuming the car can be returned to either terminal.
Keep the booking confirmation and provider contact details accessible. If your terminal changes, contact the provider using those details and ask whether your meeting instructions need updating. Follow the booking instructions rather than the general passenger drop-off signs.
Our [guide to how Meet & Greet parking works](/guides/how-does-meet-and-greet-parking-work) explains the handover process. For airport-specific product information, see [Gatwick Meet & Greet parking details](/parking/gatwick/gatwick-meet-and-greet-parking).
Frequently asked questions
- Can I tell which Gatwick terminal I need from the airline name?
- The airline name is a useful starting point, and Gatwick publishes airline terminal information. Confirm it against your particular flight and travel date before setting off rather than relying only on a general airline list.
- Which airline should I check for a codeshare flight?
- Look for the words “operated by” in your flight booking. The operating airline runs the flight, even if you bought the ticket through another airline. If the flight number on your ticket is not easy to find in airport listings, check with your airline for the operating flight number and terminal.
- Does arriving at a different terminal mean I must change my parking booking?
- You should contact your parking provider to check. Tell them your inbound flight number, arrival date and updated terminal, and ask them to confirm any changes to the booking or collection instructions. Do not assume your original meeting point will still apply.
