Running Late for Meet & Greet Parking: Handover Advice

Updated 6 November 2026

If you are running late for Meet & Greet parking, contact the handover team using the number in your booking confirmation as soon as your arrival estimate changes. Ask them to confirm the revised arrangements, then check your airline’s deadlines separately. A rearranged parking handover does not extend check-in, bag-drop or boarding cut-offs.

1. Contact the handover team before you reach the airport

Ask a passenger to make the call, or stop somewhere safe and legal before using your phone. Use the arrival or handover number in your booking confirmation rather than assuming a general booking enquiry line can coordinate the driver.

Have these details ready: - Booking reference and booking name. - Car registration. - Airport and departure terminal. - Original handover time and realistic revised arrival estimate. - Flight departure time.

A useful opening is: “My booking reference is [reference]. I was due at [time], but now expect to arrive at [time]. Can you confirm where I should go and whether the handover can still take place?”

If the delay changes again, update the team. Do not speed or handle your phone while driving to try to recover lost time.

2. Confirm the new arrangements—do not assume a grace period

There is no universal late-arrival allowance for Meet & Greet bookings. Check your product’s terms and ask the handover team: - Can they accept your revised arrival time? - Is the original meeting point still correct? - Must you call again before entering the meeting area? - Do any booking changes or additional charges apply? - What should you do if you arrive before a driver is ready?

Do not treat an unanswered call, voicemail or sent message as confirmation that the handover has been rearranged. If you cannot get through, follow any alternative contact instructions in your confirmation. Keep a record of your contact attempts, but do not assume this changes the booking terms.

For an explanation of the usual process, see our guide to [how a Meet & Greet handover works](/guides/how-does-meet-and-greet-parking-work).

3. Check whether you can still meet your airline’s deadlines

Your booked parking time is not your airport check-in deadline. You still need time to complete the vehicle handover, reach the terminal, drop any checked bags, pass security and get to the gate.

Check your airline’s current instructions for your flight, including check-in, bag-drop and boarding cut-offs. Online check-in does not remove the bag-drop deadline if you have hold luggage; our [bag-drop guide for passengers checked in online](/guides/airport-bag-drop-after-online-check-in) explains the remaining steps.

If a deadline looks unachievable, contact the airline for advice while separately updating the parking team. Do not assume a delayed flight means check-in or bag drop will stay open later. The parking team cannot authorise late acceptance by the airline.

4. Follow the confirmed meeting-point instructions

An airport passenger drop-off zone is not automatically a Meet & Greet handover point. Use the terminal, access route and meeting location specified in your booking or subsequently confirmed by the handover team. Follow airport signs and restrictions on arrival.

If you miss the entrance, continue along the signed route and contact the team when safe. Do not stop on an approach road, reverse towards a missed turn or leave your car unattended while searching for a driver.

If nobody is there, call before leaving the vehicle or handing over the keys. Ask where you may wait legally and check the posted conditions for that area. Do not assume waiting or access charges are included in your booking.

5. Keep the essential handover checks, even when rushed

Meet & Greet parking involves handing your vehicle and keys to an authorised driver, who takes the car to the parking location. Being late is not a reason to skip confirming who is collecting it.

Check that the driver can match your booking details and follow any identification procedure in your instructions. Complete the required vehicle-condition record and handover acknowledgement. Keep any receipt, reference or digital confirmation you receive.

Before releasing the keys, take your passports, travel documents, medication, phone and luggage. Check for belongings in the boot and rear seats, and remove any child equipment or mobility aids you need for the journey. Keep unrelated house keys with you where practical.

Our [car preparation checklist](/guides/prepare-car-meet-and-greet-parking) covers tasks you can complete before setting off.

6. If the handover cannot go ahead, resolve both bookings separately

If the team cannot accommodate your revised arrival, ask what options are permitted under your parking booking. Confirm any change or cancellation conditions before agreeing to a new arrangement. Do not leave the car and keys somewhere without an agreed, completed handover.

If you miss your flight or move to another departure, contact the airline and parking team separately. Changing the flight does not automatically change the parking dates, terminal or collection arrangements.

If your car has already been taken away and you need it back earlier, ask the parking team to arrange its return rather than assuming it can be retrieved immediately. See [what to do after missing a flight](/guides/missed-flight-at-airport-what-to-do) for the airline and baggage steps.

Frequently asked questions

Will the Meet & Greet driver wait if I am late?
Do not assume the driver can wait or that a grace period applies. Contact the handover team with your revised arrival estimate and ask them to confirm whether they can accommodate it. The arrangements depend on your booking terms and the team’s ability to reschedule.
Will I have to pay extra for arriving late?
There is no universal late-arrival fee. Check your booking terms and ask whether the delay changes any parking charges. Airport access or waiting charges may be separate, so confirm those too rather than assuming they are covered.
What if my revised arrival falls outside operating hours?
For Meet & Greet products listed on this site, Luton operates 24 hours; Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted and Manchester operate 04:00–23:00 daily. Contact the handover team if your arrival may fall outside those hours. Do not assume an out-of-hours handover is possible, or that 24-hour operation removes the need to update your booked arrival time.
What if I am late collecting my car after the return flight?
Follow the return instructions in your booking and update the collection team if your arrival or collection estimate changes. Confirm when to call, where to meet and whether the delay affects your booking. Do not assume flight tracking automatically rearranges collection, or request the car before you are ready unless your instructions say to do so.
